The South Carolina Council for African American Studies in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Education is accepting applications to work with 20 Social Studies teachers in grades 4, 5, 8 and 11 who will participate in a 4-day professional learning opportunity that will explore several African American Historical Sites in Sumter County. Teachers accepted in the seminar opportunity will be required to develop an inquiry-based instructional unit with primary document text sets that explore the topic of, “Vestiges of a Divided Society: Jim Crow in Rural Sumter County, (1895-1954)." Selected teachers will receive a stipend upon completion of all professional learning opportunity requirements. MORE INFORMATION
